BAD BIRNBACH, Germany

High-risk patients are checked regularly for signs of skin cancer. Up to now, these examinations were time-consuming and tended to concentrate on single moles. But that’s all about to change: it is now possible to record images of the entire skin surface in less than three minutes and to monitor it continuously for changes. The new FotoFinder bodystudio ATBM system controls the entire imaging process automatically. This ground breaking procedure has been presented at the Congress of the German Dermatology Society in May 2013.

ATBM examinations involve taking patient photographs from four sides. Unlike conventional body photography, the ATBM features a fully automated camera positioning in order to record the entire skin surface from head to toe in a minimum of time. After only three minutes, 20 photographs are saved and the new Bodyscan ATBM has already compared them automatically with the previous ones. New and changed lesions are highlighted so that they are visible at a glance. Also new is the FotoFinder SmartMatch technology which creates four complete body views with a resolution of up to 72 megapixels each.

The ATBM procedure seamlessly integrates mole examinations with digital dermoscopy. All relevant nevi are marked in the whole body image and documented microscopically with a Full HD video dermatoscope. To support the diagnosis, the Moleanalyzer delivers a malignancy score based on clinically approved pattern recognition algorithms.

The standardization features in the software combined with the laser based patient positioning system guarantee reproducible images in all subsequent examinations. The intuitive imaging procedure can be delegated to the practice staff.

“Our skin is a large organ that takes a long time to examine. The new ATBM procedure reduces the effort involved to a minimum. Thanks to the impressive total body photographs, doctors can spot any conspicuous features and changes at a glance. In this way, the system supports the medial expertise of the dermatologist and gives patients more security,” explains Andreas Mayer, Managing Director of FotoFinder Systems.
