Polycom Enables Bella I to Conduct Plastic Surgery Consultations and Diagnoses Remotely via Secure Video Collaboration Between Physicians and Patients in Korea and China

Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), the global leader in open standards-based unified communications and collaboration (UC&C), announced that the Korean plastic surgery counseling institution Bella I Co., Ltd. is using Polycom secure, HD video collaboration solutions to provide customers with remote pre-surgery counseling and diagnosis, and post-surgery follow-up services. This is the first application of remote plastic surgery counseling between Korea and China. Polycom’s video collaboration solutions have helped Bella I create a brand new operational model for the cosmetic and plastic surgery industry.

Bella I is devoted to providing counseling services to visitors coming to Korea for plastic and cosmetic surgery, primarily offering customers anti-aging and beautification surgery options. Bella I understands that customers who seek cosmetic surgery options often have to travel long distances multiple times for pre-surgery counseling, onsite surgery and post-surgery follow-up visits. In addition, as a professional cosmetic surgery institution, Bella I often conducts business exchanges or performs remote diagnoses with its partners throughout China. The Polycom HDX 6000 room video collaboration system makes it easy for customers in China to communicate with Korean cosmetic surgeons and for Bella I to conduct daily meetings with its partners in China in a highly efficient way.

The public, network-based remote diagnostic system powered by Polycom offers Bella I a business operation model that facilitates remote exchanges, communications, and diagnoses, resulting in significant cost savings, increased sales and improved administrative efficiencies. The system is able to provide secure HD face-to-face video meetings with low bandwidth as a result of H.264 High Profile. Its HD meeting network protection mechanism satisfies the requirements for extremely clear audio-visual transmission between the Bella I main office in Korea, the main office in Beijing, and various partners in China. In addition, to guarantee that cosmetic surgery specialists have advanced knowledge of each customer’s facial and physical traits, the Polycom video solution is equipped with an additional screen enlarging feature, which enlarges the room in the original screen by 10 times to clearly present skin texture and structure. With this feature, specialists are able to perform cosmetic surgery outcome assessments, such as checking if double-fold eyelids are symmetrical or if the nose is prominent enough. Secondly, after cosmetic surgery, doctors can also assess the surgical outcome and subsequent care by conducting follow-up visits through the system while patients are recovering from the surgery.
