In October 2020, the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) won the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize. Maha Ahmed, deputy country director of WFP China, came to the forum and said that one of WFP’s goals is to achieve the sustainable development goal of “zero hunger” worldwide by 2030.

The guests attending the forum expressed their recognition and appreciation of Nanjing’s contribution to the cause of peace in recent years. Ou Minxing, UNESCO’s representative to the five East Asian countries, said he was very pleased to cooperate with Nanjing to hold the Peace Forum. He also said that cities are playing an increasingly important role in the process of peace building and hoped that more cities will contribute to the cause of peace like Nanjing. Through this forum, more young people will be brought together to share the message of peace building to the world.

In 2017, Nanjing University set up the “UNESCO Chair for Peace Studies.” Liu Cheng, the moderator of the UNESCO Chair for Peace Studies and doctoral supervisor of the school of history of Nanjing University, said that in recent years, Nanjing has been telling the stories of peace to the world in various ways, which has led to the construction of a culture of peace throughout China and the world. Nanjing has demonstrated to the world that China is an active advocate and builder of world peace. He said, “The holding of China’s first Peace Forum in Nanjing is very significant and shows the desire and pursuit of peace by the people of Nanjing, the Chinese people and the world.” (written/photographed by Wu Nan)
