Invest in Sharjah will use its presence at the event, titled ‘Global Investment Strategies for a Going Global China,’ to highlight the array of advantages that Sharjah can offer Chinese entrepreneurs and businesspersons keen to set up operations in the emirate. The organisation is aiming to capitalise on the opportunities offered by the world’s largest economy by purchasing power parity, its fastest growing consumer economy, its largest exporter of goods and its second largest importer of goods.

China is a burgeoning economic powerhouse and is home to thousands of companies looking to expand their operations beyond the country’s borders. Shurooq is delighted to be participating at the Free Trade and Special Economic Zone Summit Shanghai to outline the many advantages of doing business in Sharjah. As the perfect hub between east and west, Sharjah can offer a special strategic focus on the four key sectors of Tourism and Leisure, Healthcare, Transport and Logistics and Real Estate and the Environment,” said Mohammed Al Musharrkh, Director of the Sharjah FDI office (Invest in Sharjah).

Healthcare opportunities which will be explored at the summit are particularly potentially lucrative. Spending in China’s health-care sector is projected to grow from $357 billion in 2011 to $1 trillion in 2020 (according to Mckinsey), with consumer health pharmaceuticals and medical product companies in China seeking expansion internally as well as further afield.

Also under review at the summit will be leisure and tourism opportunities available in Sharjah, with the expected influx of Chinese tourists following the announcement of the issuance of a visa on arrival to visitors from China in September this year. The move is expected to significantly increase the number of Chinese tourists to the UAE, which saw approximately half a million of the country’s citizens visiting in 2015.
