The largest international conference on DNA analysis for human identification, the 27th International Symposium on Human Identification (ISHI) will feature presentations from leading professionals in the fields of forensic DNA analysis, forensic anthropology, law enforcement and more. ISHI 27 features three days of general session presentations complemented by optional small group workshops. Experts on forensic DNA practices and scientists devoted to improving forensic technology will present talks covering:

  • DNA Policy Updates from the US and Europe
  • Strategies for Reducing the Sexual Assault Backlog
  • Implementation of Rapid DNA for Homeland Security
  • Advances in DNA Phenotyping
  • Identifying Remains from the Dozier School for Boys

ISHI 27 optional workshops include:

  • Determining Phenotypes from Genotypes
  • Experiencing the Forensic Laboratory NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) Workflow
  • Validation and Mixture Interpretation Standard Operating Procedures
  • Likelihood Ratios and Probabilistic Genotyping
  • Detecting and Resolving Errors in Forensic Testing
  • Simulation of NGS and Bioinformatics Workflow

ISHI attracts more than 900 DNA analysts and forensic scientists from around the world, providing these professionals an opportunity to explore and discuss the latest research, technologies and ethical issues in the field today. Industry experts from the FBI (including the CODIS Unit), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), INTERPOL, top research universities, public and private forensic labs, expert DNA witnesses, and various state forensic science bureaus, police departments and state attorneys’ offices will be represented.
