WALTHAM, Mass.

Wolters Kluwer, a leading global provider of information and point of care solutions for the healthcare industry, announced today that UpToDate®, its acclaimed clinical decision support resource, has received approval from the Japan Primary Care Association (JPCA) as an official Continuing Medical Education (CME) resource. JPCA members can now earn CME credits while using UpToDate to answer clinical questions.

“The flow of medical knowledge is ever-increasing, but physicians do not have the time to keep up with constantly changing information,” said Mr. Atsushi Igaki, Chief Administrative Officer of the JPCA. “UpToDate helps manage this challenge by promoting continuous learning. With every search on UpToDate, members of the JPCA can provide the best care for their patients while continuing their medical education.”

Studies have shown that researching clinical information in UpToDate helps doctors stay current with changes in research and recommended treatments across 22 specialties. JPCA physicians can now use the time they already spend researching clinical questions with UpToDate toward continuing professional development requirements at no extra cost and with no additional testing. Recognized by the JPCA as a provider of internet point of care learning, UpToDate use can be applied to JPCA members’ 5-year certification period.

Using UpToDate to fulfill CME requirements is easier than ever at hospitals and institutions where UpToDate Anywhere is available. JPCA members can access UpToDate on mobile devices using award-winning mobile apps. UpToDate may also be integrated in the electronic medical record (EMR) system which streamlines both the clinical workflow and access to CME/CE/CPD.

“We are honored to provide a continuing medical education resource for the Japan Primary Care Association,” says Denise Basow, MD, Vice President and General Manager, UpToDate at Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions. “Studies have demonstrated that clinical knowledge declines over the career of a physician. UpToDate can mitigate this trend by providing current and evidence-based content that ensures physicians make the right decisions and provide the highest quality of care.”

Wolters Kluwer continues to work with professional societies in Japan to facilitate access to innovative continuing medical education via UpToDate.
