MINNEAPOLIS

Blue Belt Technologies, a medical technology company specializing in robotic solutions for orthopedic surgery, announced the first Navio-assisted surgery performed in Australia and the first implanted Navio-assisted GRU Knee System from corporate partner Global Orthopaedics Technology. The procedure was performed by Dr. Bill Walter, Orthopedic Surgeon at Mater Hospital in Sydney, Australia.

“Handheld robotics are an important and exciting step on the path to improved precision and reliability in joint replacement,” said Dr. Walter. “In a time where implant design and materials have achieved great success, accurate surgery is the last realm where significant improvement is possible. Until now surgery has been largely an art. Technologies like this are turning surgery into less of an art and more of a science.”

The Navio Surgical System is a CT-free, robotic-assisted technology that delivers highly accurate and precise implant placement for partial knee replacement. Blue Belt Technology’s partnership with Global Orthopaedics increases the Navio system’s reach outside the U.S. and brings the first robotic-assisted solution for partial knee replacement to Australia.

“Our partnership with Global Orthopaedics and the first Navio-assisted partial knee replacement performed in Australia set an excellent foundation for our commercial efforts outside the US,” said Eric Timko, President and CEO of Blue Belt Technologies.
