SANTA CLARA, Calif.

Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501), today announced that ConnectingSpaces has selected and implemented Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) with Pixcelldata’s Collibio software as its digital pathology solution for use by the biosecurity sector. ConnectingSpaces is an Australian security-accredited service provider of virtual work environments.

Built for the unique workflow needs and collaboration challenges of pathologists, the solution allows real-time access to review and collaborate using images from proprietary scanner systems. Together, Hitachi Content Platform and the Collibio application provide an efficient departmental workflow that supports the collaborative processes of pathologists between departments and clinics.

“The digital pathology solution formed with Hitachi Data Systems and Pixcelldata products gives pathologists innovative functionality,” said Dr. Joanne Banyer, CEO, ConnectingSpaces. “Today, pathologists already receive digital images faster and more efficiently. Now, using HCP and Collibio they can instantly and securely collaborate professionally as part of their clinical workflow and revolutionize the way they store and manage digital images.”

“Until now, whole slide image data in the biosecurity sector has largely been held in silos, making it difficult for pathologists to access and collaborate from different locations,” said Dave Wilson, senior director, Business Development, Hitachi Data Systems. “Having this technology available from Hitachi Data Systems now enables the silos to be networked so that pathologists from multiple locations can meet in a virtual work environment to access and collaborate on slide images. Together with Pixcelldata, we are delivering infrastructure solutions optimized for multi-location and multivendor environments and are improving laboratory productivity and efficiency.”

“This capability directly aligns with our mission to provide interoperability and integration in the fragmented and rapidly evolving digital pathology space,” said Alan Hanley, CEO, Pixcelldata. “Our partnership with Hitachi Data Systems allows us to provide pathology labs with a complete digital workflow solution with tools developed specifically for their needs.”

Consisting of 2 basic components, the solution includes HCP, an information repository that houses images, referrals, reports and associated metadata. The system normalizes and stores proprietary pathology data and decouples it from its original applications, thus liberating information for more uses.

Fully integrated to ensure high performance and ease of use, the Collibio digital pathology application connects to existing proprietary image archives. It immediately makes cases accessible across departments and facilities, encouraging collaboration between pathologists, researchers and students.
