iMDsoft^®, a leader in clinical information systems, announced that the Government of Queensland has signed a statewide enterprise license agreement that covers the deployment of MetaVision® in ICUs across the state’s network of public hospitals. MetaVision is already successfully installed in four of Queensland Health hospitals: Gold Coast Hospital, The Prince Charles Hospital, Townsville Hospital and Rockhampton Base Hospital, with Logan Hospital slated to go live later this year.

MV-ICU^TM, the MetaVision clinical information system for ICUs, captures, displays, analyzes, reports and stores the vast amount of patient-related data generated in critical care environments. The system automatically creates a complete electronic health record, provides workflow coverage across the continuum of care, and arms healthcare professionals with timely, accurate and actionable information. Using MetaVision allows hospitals to improve patient safety through the standardisation of medication and clinical protocols, the use of advanced decision support tools, the ability to analyze and report clinical data for quality improvements, and the conduct of advanced research.

Queensland, Australia’s second largest state by area, sought an enterprise solution to facilitate care standardization and enforcement of clinical best practices throughout its complex hospital network. In October 2010, MetaVision was selected as the shared electronic patient record platform for the network’s ICUs, replacing paper records and competing software systems. The signing of this agreement signals the success of the project thus far, and validates the work that began with the initial go-live at Gold Coast Hospital in August 2011. Some of the positive outcomes that Queensland Health has already realized include:

• Standardised medications management: MetaVision has facilitated the implementation of standardised medication protocols across all Queensland Health sites, and the network is already seeing positive results in the areas of error reduction, standardisation of care and reduced costs.
• Increased compliance with medication protocols: MetaVision’s advanced decision support has helped increase compliance with medication protocols and guidelines for complicated intensive care procedures.
• Improved research capability: With eventual access to data from all the ICU beds in Queensland (200+), this project is the first to achieve this level of data access for critical care research in Australia and New Zealand.
• Reduced hardware and project costs: QLD Health and the MetaVision project have achieved significant hardware and project cost savings with a centrally managed system and project methodology.
• Fast and efficient implementation methodology: iMDsoft’s project implementation methodology was localised for the Queensland Health project to support a flexible roll-out schedule.
• High user acceptance: MetaVision has enjoyed high user acceptance and adoption rates across the sites amongst all ICU clinical and administrative staff.
• Wide geographic deployment: MetaVision was deployed across geographically distant sites, proving that clinical systems can be run and managed centrally but localised and used remotely.
