CALABASAS, Calif.

Atlas Public Health announced that it has successfully completed the high-profile Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) Standards for Public Health Pilot Project. The Company, in partnership with the Public Health Data Standards Consortium (PHDSC), Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE), Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), and with support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), participated in a pilot project to demonstrate how public health reporting can be automated via an electronic data exchange between clinical Electronic Health Record (EHR) Systems and the Company’s client, San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) using CDA standards. The Health IT (HIT) Standards Federal Advisory Committee has recommended the use of the Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) as a future direction for electronic data exchanges between clinical and public health information systems for public health reporting. The Company utilized its WorldCare™ public health suite of software to facilitate the transmission of public health clinical data to enable San Diego County HHSA to receive critical public health data electronically from hospital electronic health record (EHR) systems by utilizing the “Retrieve Form for Data Capture (RFD) and Cross-Enterprise Document Reliable Interchange (XDR)” standards as outlined within the IHE IT Standards Framework.

The Company’s WorldCare suite provides automated reporting of clinical data from hospitals’ EHR applications to the public health department, improving efficiency and reducing errors by eliminating the need to re-enter patient data. WorldCare boasts a highly configurable surveillance and case management system that allows users to receive alerts and take immediate action to protect the public. “We are proud to be part of this successful pilot demonstrating the effectiveness of CDA in facilitating the vital communication between hospitals and public health agencies,” states Mark Marostica, Atlas Public Health Vice President of Global Business Development. He continues, “ATLAS and organizations such as San Diego County HHSA are at the forefront of improving data interoperability between systems, while protecting the patient and community by utilizing our powerful WorldCare solutions.”

Due to the success of this pilot project, ATLAS has been invited by PHDSC to participate in an upcoming CDA Pilot involving the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program. Agencies interested in partnering with ATLAS please contact us at info@atlasdev.com.
